👀 Design & Durability

The vivo Y500 has a clean, modern design with metallic-finish frame, slim bezels and a distinctive camera module, the Nebula Window.

The durability is one of the phone’s key features. It is IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistant and is certified for military grade shock resistance.

However, water-resistance does degrade over time with regular usage, so the IP rating isn’t a guaranty of protection from all liquid damage.

🔋 vivo Y500 8100mAh battery

The vivo Y500 8100mAh battery is several times larger than what most smartphones in this class offer. vivo says that in lab conditions it can deliver up to 29+ hours of video playback, 67 hours of music playback and 10+ hours of PUBG gaming.

The phone also comes with bypass charging, which can send power directly to the device while it’s charging. This could help reduce heat on long gaming sessions.

Laboratory testing by vivo shows that the battery retains at least 80% of its capacity after 1,600 full charge cycles.

📱 1.5 inch AMOLED Display

The Y500 sports a 1.5K AMOLED 6.83-inch display with a 449 PPI, 120Hz refresh rate, and a 94.47% screen-to-body ratio.

The display is said to be visible in bright outdoor conditions, and has a local peak brightness of up to 5000 nits . SGS certifications also include sunlight readability, low blue light protection.

AMOLED technology, 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate make the display of the phone one of the strongest features of the phone.

⚡ Performance & Cooling

It runs on a 8-core 6nm platform for daily apps, browsing, streaming and gaming. vivo claims that it has tested the phone and achieved an AnTuTu score of over 680,000.

The Y500 has a 3000mm² vapor chamber cooling system with a total heat dissipation area of over 43,000mm² to keep things running smoothly.

This should help with heat management during longer gaming or heavy-use sessions.

📸 Camera

The rear camera setup is composed of a 50MP Sony IMX852 main camera and 2MP bokeh camera. Selfie camera 32MP (front)

The Sony main sensor is meant for everyday snaps and the high-res front camera should come in handy for selfies and video calls.

vivo also brings AI Erase 2.0 and AI UHD 2.0 to remove unwanted objects and improve image clarity.

🔊 Software & Features

The vivo Y500 runs on OriginOS 6 and has features like Circle to Search, AI Captions and AI Transcript Assist.

These tools can help users to search information from the screen, generate captions and convert recordings into text.

🏁 The Final Verdict

The vivo Y500 8100mAh battery is the phone’s biggest selling point, but it’s not the only reason to consider it. The 1.5K AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, IP68/IP69 protection, Sony camera, stereo speakers and cooling system make for a well-rounded package.

The Takeaway: The vivo Y500 is a good option for those looking for long battery life, a quality AMOLED display and solid construction without having to upgrade to a flagship smartphone.
